We will start from the spots in Shibuya.
Tokyu department store and Hachiko statue can be seen at the public square, where just exit from Hachiko exit in Shibuya Station. There are many tourists and foreigners taking photos with the Hachiko.
Nowadays, Hachiko is one of the major rendezvous. The crowd will always be observed around it. Sometime it is challenging to meet up with someone due to that crowd.
Therefore, it is much easier to meet up someone at the green train (Aogaeru) where just opposite the Hachiko. The green train was used as commuter train "5000s" in 1954 by Tokyu electric railroad company.
Sometime it’s called "onigiri train" by the residents because of its shape. Also people call the train "Aogaeru (green frog) train" due to the train colour.
After the train has been abandoned and it has been placed in front of Hachiko.
There is no special relationship between Hachiko and the train.
Do you know the story of Hachiko?
Hachi is Akita dog and he was waiting for his owner.
Eizaburo Ueno, an agricultural scientist in the University of Tokyo, was known as dog lover and he adopted the Akita dog (Hachiko) In 1924.
In the following year, 1925, Ueno died from cerebral infarction during his lecture.
After the death of its owner , Hachi had been waiting for Ueno at the Shibuya station where Ueno used as transportation for his work place.
People were impressed with Hachi's obedience and name him Chuken (faithful dog) Hachiko to salute his act..
In 1934, the Hachiko statue was built and he actually joined the ceremony.
80 years later, Hachi is still the symbol of Shibuya and became the famous tourist attraction and rendezvous.
Moreover, there is the Hachi statue with his owner in the University of Tokyo!
After 80 years of the Ueno's death, professors decided to built the statues in the campus of the department of agriculture. Such a heartwarming and touching story.
The purpose of building the statue is wishing Hachi could meet Ueno to meet again, which did not happen in real life. After the history and story behind Hachi have been told, perhaps you could feel it with deeper emotion.

【Access】"JR Shibuya station" Hachiko Exit
It is sure that the crossing is the most famous tourist attraction in Shibuya. This is the one of the biggest crossing in Japan, which joins the JR Hachiko exit and Center Street (Basket Street).
Massive amount of people walk across this junction and about 3,000 people are crossing the road each time. The number of pedestrians reaches 500,000 for one day. This hits the highest record among the world.
The impressive picture of people crossing the road is often used in the morning TV shows.
For the place where has high population density became popular among foreigners. Particularly in Tokyo, there are numerous number of Japanese people dress up and behave differently from visitors.
When you actually visit the crossing, you can see the foreigners taking photos with selfie stick and filming. Some take group photo in the middle of the crossing and some take the photo of people crossing the road. It seems a bit dangerous though.
Interestingly, people can walk the crossing without hitting others even there is over 3,000 people cross over the road at the same time. The author’s foreign friends always question, why Japanese people can walk smoothly in the crowd?.
In my opinion, that is because of the unique Japanese spirits, "mutual concession".
Shibuya crossing is one of the hot place where young people gather during events.
For instant, on Halloween, young people wear unique costume and have their party on the crossing.
Another example is the day when Japanese soccer team have a game. People will wear the jersey and support the team.
In both situation, you can feel the power of the young generations and interesting scenes.
On the other hand, sometime it become a social problem and became a news about the crazy young people.
Nowadays, police officers are well prepared for the such event.
One of the famous stories about the crossing is "DJ police". He will be there to warn those who behave badly on the day when Japanese team got chance to go to the World Cup.
After that, he appear every time people over party in the crossing. People praise him on SNS such as twitter.
We need to keep manner and behave well even it is a fun and exciting event.
